20190407-Eastern Screech Owl - 1

This screech owl was found alongside the road in Elkhart, Indiana. It was brought to our volunteer that lives by Albion and then brought to our treatment facility. Upon initial examination there were no obvious injuries, but a brood patch was discovered. We immediately called the person that found the bird to ask them to check for a nest.  They said they had looked and were not able to find one but that the bird had been found on the road by a house that had just burned. Not sure if this was related to the bird’s injury or lack of finding a nest. This owl will go to veterinarian for x-rays in the morning to determine if there are any injuries. 04/13/19 This female is still in our treatment facility. She is being observed to determine if her vision injuries will  heal enough for her to be eventually released and if she is able to find food on her own 04/20/19 This owl is still under observation in our treatment facility. She no longer needs meds but her eyes are still an issue 05/05/19 This owl is doing well , no longer needs medication and is eating well on her own. She will eventually need placed because of her vision issue 05/11/19 This owl is still doing well in our treatment facility. 05/17/19 This owl has progressed enough to be moved to one of our volunteer trainers. She will be trained to step up on a glove and back down again. She will eventually be placed as an education bird 06/22/19 This owl has been moved to our treatment facility. It is awaiting the completion of necessary paperwork before it is moved to its permanent facility
