20160604-American Kestrel

06042016-AMKE. This poor little kestrel orphan is truly that!  A company in Hicksville, Ohio, was opening a shipping crate from Chicago and found this little girl inside.  We will never know how she got on the crate to start with!  Physical exam revealed no injuries. She immediately ate some cut up pieces of mice when she arrived. She will be put in an outside flight pen with other orphaned kestrels when she starts tearing food on her own.    04June2016 06032106-AMKE. No injuries were found on this immature female American Kestrel.  She just appeared a bit too young to be on her own.  Once we make sure she is eating and able to tear up whole prey items, she will join several other orphaned kestrels in a flight pen.
