10312016 Eastern Screech Owl - 1

Admission Date:
Cause of Admission:
stunned by passing car
UPDATE: Another success story. This was was released back to the wild on Nov 6 2016.

grey phase Eastern Screech Owl was presented after being found in the middle of the road. Upon examination, he was alert and in excellent weight. Radiographs did not reveal any fractures. His eyes appeared to be normal upon ophthalmic examination.

There is a good chance that this little guy was not actually hit but caught in the air draft around a vehicle.  This can tumble them around a lot and while not having the problems like fractures that a direct hit can have, it still can leave them dazed and disoriented. This guy will be kept in an ICU cage to make sure he is eating well then put in a flight pen to test his flying ability as well as his sight.

Hopefully he will be on his way back home in a few short days!

How You Can Help
