Cause of Admission:
Mouth infection
UPDATE: 02/07/2019 - We contacted the individual where this owl was found and, because the owl was found next to a chicken coop, he did not want the bird released in the same location. Given this information, we found an alternate place in which to release him that was still in the New Haven area. He flew off wonderfully into a nice stand of pine trees!

This great horned owl was found in Fort Wayne.  It was caught between a building and chicken coop.  It had a severe mouth infection. This inflection had affected its ability to eat.  It was pretty thin when it made its way to our treatment center.

Its infection finally cleared up after 4 weeks and it was moved to our rehabilitation facility.

After a month in our rehabilitation facility its mouth infection was back.  It was moved back to our treatment facility for another round of medication for pain and probable fungal infection.  Treatment lasted about 6 weeks and then back to our rehabilitation facility.

The owl started creance training, which is basically allowing him to fly while tethered. This enables us to monitor his flying ability and potential to be released.

How You Can Help

It's important to rescue, rehab, and share these birds with the community, and we thank our donors and volunteers for making it possible.
