UPDATE: 07/20/2019 - This owl's vision problems dissipated, and he was found healthy enough to catch live prey. He was released near the residence where he was found!

Today we received a call from the Soarin’ Hawk call taker at about 4:00 P.M.  Lana was told there was an owl on a porch in Rome City, Indiana.  The bird had been there about four hours after being discovered.  Lana was able to approach the owl without much resistance. The bird did retain possession of Lana’s glove as she placed it in a carrier.  No obvious injuries were noted.  I met Lana at S.R. 3 and S.R. 205 where I finished the transport to Pine Veterinary Clinic for an exam by Dr. Funnel SHRR avian vet.  The keel was a 2.5.  The bird may have vision problems and did not react to stimulus.

This owl has been moved to our rehabilitation facility. He does not have all of his adult tail feathers. He will have to get in his tail feathers before we can determine his ability to fly.

This beautiful little owl may have some vision issues.  He is being observed in our rehabilitation facility to determine the extent of his vision problems.

How You Can Help

It's important to rescue, rehab, and share these birds with the community, and we thank our donors and volunteers for making it possible.
