UPDATE: 07/07/21On July 7, 2021, 11:30 AM; I released a broad winged hawk into the woods on the property of Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control; alongside a creek and woods. The hawk had been rescued by Jody after it hit the window at FWACC on May 22, 2021. This hawk had no apparent injuries other than blood in his trachea. Blood work showed he had parasites and flies. Treatment included antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. Post ICU he flourished in rehab pen G…eating well and exercising. He is a feisty bird. Jody was notified of the release as well as FWACC. No audience was present. My daughter, Monica Heger, filmed the release.

Called to pick up a hawk who flew into a window at FW Animal Care and Control. Jody (volunteer there) brought him inside after she noticed the hawk wasn't recovering. This story is second hand as the rescuer was no longer present. The broad wing hawk was alert, standing, wings spread, pupils equal, mouth open ...a little bloody inside the mouth. Went straight to Soarin'Hawk ICU for treatment.
05/25/21 No obvious external injuries have been found. We are treating for possible internal injuries
06/04/21 This hawk is improving, it has been moved into a larger enclosure. It has begun flying and is finding food on its own
