Head injuries, ruptured crop

Via volunteer Don:

I received a call from the Soarin’ Hawk Rescue Line at 2:00pm to pick up an injured red-tailed hawk in Ouabache State Park, Bluffton IN.  I met Brian, an Indiana DNR employee at the Ouabache State Park maintenance building.  A couple had found the hawk in the road at the entrance of the park and transported it the park office.  The hawk appeared to have a head injury with a head wound and a ruptured crop (a pre-stomach organ) with an open wound.  Both wings and legs appeared normal.  I placed her in a transport box and took her to Soarin’ Hawk’s intensive care unit for further evaluation and treatment.  She was cleaned, and the wounds were dressed. Pain and antibiotic medications were administered.  This red-tail has suffered very serious injuries and will continue to be treated and evaluated.

How You Can Help
