01212019 Red-tailed Hawk - 1
Via volunteer Don:
The Soarin’ Hawk rescue hotline received a call, reporting a hawk down at a home in Grant County outside of Marion, IN. I met Morgan who reported that she came home and the hawk was in the driveway and walked/ran away instead of flying. She placed a basket over it and kept it in the garage until I arrived. Upon arrival I found an alert but quiet, mature red-tailed hawk with a droopy left wing. The right wing appeared, felt, and moved normally. The left wing was drooping, had a limited range of motion, and an abnormality could be felt along the ulna and radius (forearm). He was also very thin with a keel score of 1.5. He was placed in a transport box and taken to Pine Valley Veterinarian Clinic for further evaluation and treatment.
01/24/19 - This hawk was discovered to have an old fracture in his humerus. His prognosis for eventual release is guarded. He is being treated in our treatment facility.
