UPDATE: 03/04/21 This great horned owl was released in Miami Co along Division road approximately 3/4 mile west of highway 31 at 4:30 p.m. today. There were 3 people there. Linda & Keith Wilson and our 7 year old great grand daughter Hadlee. Linda is a state licensed wildlife rehabbed. The owl flew across a field and landed in a tree. A short time later it flew again north to a taller tree. The release sight was less than a mile from where we picked him up in January.

On 1/19, Soarin’ Hawk received a call from a couple who found a Great Horned owl in the median on US 24 and 31 in Peru, Miami county. They stopped to investigate, and the owl flew across the median, and that’s all the owl could handle. They were able to capture the owl and put it in a box. I met the couple in Huntington and transported the owl to our treatment facility in Huntertown where it was triaged by Nicole. Nicole found blood on his feet and beak. Its keel indicated that he had been eating. He will be further evaluated.

Wayne

01/21/2021 This owl has severe bruising on its right side and symptoms of neurological issues. We are treating it for pain at the moment. Keeping it calm  and under observation. This is a guarded diagnosis

02/05/2021 We are seeing improvement in this owls health and attitude

2/13/21 This owl is quite feisty and has just needs to get its flight muscle strength back. It will hopefully be able to be released soon

How You Can Help

It's important to rescue, rehab, and share these birds with the community, and we thank our donors and volunteers for making it possible.
